Abstract:

Cross-inoculation experiments were conducted in the greenhouse to test the rhizobia isolated from nodules of seven tree legumes for their effectiveness in Vigna mungo plants. The tree legumes included Albizia lebbeck, Dalbergia sissoo, Leucaena leucocephala, Pithecellobium dulce, Prosopis cineraria, Prosopis glandulosa and Prosopis juliflora, all growing under arid environment. Rhizobia from these legumes formed nodules on the roots of Vigna mungo except isolates from Albizia lebbeck. Dry weight and nitrogen contents of Vigna mungo plants increased significantly (P<0.05) in response to cross inoculation as compared to uninoculated control. Rhizobia from Leucaena leucocephala and Prosopis glandulosa showed significant increase in dry weight (P<0.05) and nitrogen contents (P<0.05) than other inoculated treatments. The natural rhizobia of wild tree legumes growing under arid environment show higher tolerance to prevailing adverse conditions like salt stress, elevated temperatures and drought. These rhizobia may be used to inoculate wild as well as crop legumes cultivated in reclaimed desert lands. These rhizobia may have specific traits that can be transferred to other rhizobia through genetic engineering tools. The cross infection of agriculturally important legumes with isolates from wild legumes may prove a useful means of increasing nitrogen contents within these plants.

Abstract:

The traditional method for studying non-stationary signals is spectrogram based on the short-time Fourier transform (STFT). The well known limitation of the STFT is the inherent trade-off between time and frequency resolution. The Wigner-Ville (WV) distribution has the best time-frequency resolution, but its draw back is generating cross-terms. The matching pursuit (MP) distribution based on using the Gaussian atom is always positive, does not include crossterm, and has convenient resolution. In this paper, we have shown in addition to the known properties, the MP distribution can also remove the additive noise inherently. On the other words, we are able to remove the noise just by limiting the algorithm iterations and without paying any additional cost. Although the MP distribution based on using the Gaussian atoms is always positive and it has convenient resolution, according to the MP the time marginal and the frequency marginal will not be obtained accurately. In this paper, it has been shown that by implementing the minimum cross entropy (MCE) technique according to the MP distribution as a priory positive distribution, the new extracted distribution has the most similarity to the MP distribution and it also satisfies the correct time and frequency marginal.

Abstract:

Arachis hypogaea. L is a legume of economic importance, which is nodulated by Bradyrhizobium, a slow-growing bacteria. However there is no well characterization of this rhizobia in many areas of China. In the present study, cross-inoculation experiments were performed in cowpea and soybean. The isolated bacteria strains were characterized physiologyically, biochemically and identified through 16S rDNA sequence analysis showing that it belongs to Bradyrhizobium japonicum. The genetic diversity of the seventeen isolated strains were assessed through PCR-RFLP of 16S rDNA and 16S-23S rDNA IGS region. Cross inoculation test indicated that isolates could nodulate cowpea but not soybean. The cluster analysis based on physiological and biochemical characteristics showed the lower correlation between isolates and sites. The isolates were grouped into four clusters based on 16S rDNA gene sequence analysis. Thirteen polymorphisms were variable across all observations in 16S rDNA RFLP and six different IGS types from isolates. The results implies that there was some association between geographical factor and phylogenetic diversity of indigenous Bradyrhizobium isolates.

Abstract:

Mutual relationship between pasture grasses and Neotyphodium fungal endophytes is of great importance in grass improvement. Two endophyte containing tall fescue genotypes (75 and 83) and their endophyte free ramets were used in this study. Endophytes were isolated from tall fescue genotypes 75 and 83 and used in three methods of inoculation including Latch and Christensen approach, insertion of mycelium into the seeds, and Johonson-Cicales approach. Endophytes were detected in new host using microscopic examination of stained tissues, AFLP marker and Koch’s postulates. Results showed that Latch and Christensen approach was the only successful technique by which cross inoculation in the two tall fescue genotypes was feasible. Success in inoculation seems to be highly dependent on splitting procedure and seedlings age. Detection methods used to confirm the presence of inoculated endophyte in plants indicated that microscopic examination is highly accurate in detecting endophytes in new host. However AFLP marker was required to confirm isolate identity although it lacked detection in all infected plants examined microscopically. Koch’s postulates showed that endophytic fungi had no morphological alterations after being inoculated into new host.

Introduction: Effective plaque removal is an important factor in the long-term clinical success of dental implants. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of a powered toothbrush (Power Cross-Action) and a manual toothbrush (Cross-Action) in the control of plaque and soft tissue inflammation around implants supporting mandibular overdentures.Materials and Methods: This study was a cross-over clinical trial. The subjects included 10 edentulous subjects, aged 47-73 years, with removable mandibular overdentures supported by 2 unsplinted implants, all the subjects wore maxillary complete dentures. The study consisted of two 4-week phases separated by a 2-week interval. In each phase each subject randomly used one toothbrush type. Two days prior to each phase, the implants were polished. Plaque and bleeding indices were recorded before and after brushing. Data was analyzed by t-test using SPSS software (a=0.05).Results: Both toothbrushes reduced the indices under study. Means of plaque index decreases were 0.5 in manual toothbrush and 0.44 in powered toothbrush. Means of bleeding index decreases were 0.27 in manual toothbrush and 0.3 in powered toothbrush. There were no statistically significant differences between the two toothbrush types in changing plaque index (p value=0.88) and bleeding index (p value=0.91).Conclusion: Both toothbrushes were efficient in plaque control around implants which supported mandibular overdentures and there was no difference between them. Patients can use one of these toothbrushes depending on personal preference and comfort.

Abstract:

Objective: Mechanical plaque removal namely tooth brushing is the most commonly used oral hygiene technique. Efficacy of tooth brushing is influenced by the design and shape of toothbrush. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of two common Iranian toothbrushes with a foreign made one in plaque removal. Methods: This clinical trial was conducted on 30 female dental students in Babol University, School of Dentistry using simple randomized sampling. Oral B Cross Action(Germany), Panberes Cross Action and Panberes Classic (Iran) toothbrushes were compared. Students were asked not to brush their teeth for 24 hours before the first visit. At the first visit, subjects received oral prophylactic procedures and the baseline plaque index was recorded before brushing for all subjects using 0' Leary plaque index. In order to match the conditions, Bass tooth brushing technique was instructed to subjects. Students were then randomly divided into 3 groups of 10. The subjects were provided with the three toothbrushes for use in the first, second and third weeks. The plaque index was recorded after using each toothbrush for one week. Paired t-test was used to compare the efficacy of toothbrushes in plaque removal in the same subject while ANOV A was applied for the comparison between the three toothbrushes. Results: Significant reductions were observed in plaque index after using each toothbrush. Plaque index reduction was the highest for Oral B Cross Action and the lowest for Panberes Classic (P=0.001). Oral B Cross Action and a significant difference with Panberes Classic in mean plaque index reduction (P=0.018). Panberes Cross Action and Oral B Cross Action were not significantly different in this respect (P=0=797).Conclusion: Oral B Cross Action and Panberes Cross Action were not significantly different in terms of plaque index reduction. However, the mentioned two toothbrushes had a significant difference in this respect with Panberes Classic.

Abstract:

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine is one of the inactivated vaccines and its potency depends on the antigen quality, antigen concentration per dose, and adjuvant. In this study to introduce the better antigen concentration method, both active and inactive of three serotypes O, A05, and Asia of FMD virus were used. Each of the virus type was cultivated in BHK21 cell culture and half of each viral suspension inactivated by ethylene imine. The physical method; ultra filtration (cross flow system) and the chemical method; treatment with poly ethylen glycole (PEG6000) were used for virus concentration following safety assay. The quantity of virus recovery was evaluated by virus adsorption by aluminum hydroxide gel, complement fixation, ELISA, TCID50 titration, and sucrose concentration on the collected samples. The results indicate that the concentration rate did not affect virus adoption by aluminum hydroxide gel and the quantity of virus recovery using ultra filtration was higher than PEG precipitation.
